Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Calculator AU | Unpack Property

Enter your family income, partner income, and each child's age to see an estimated FTB Part A and Part B fortnightly and annual amount. The tool applies the two-method Part A income test and pays the higher result. Year-end supplement amounts are shown separately. Estimates are illustrative; Services Australia determines your actual entitlement.

What is the difference between FTB Part A and Part B?
Family Tax Benefit has two separate parts. Part A is a per-child payment based on combined family income and each child's age - it uses a two-method income test and pays whichever method gives the higher result. Part B is a per-family payment that provides extra support to single-parent families and couples where one parent earns significantly less than the other. Part B has its own income rules and phases out when the youngest child turns 13 for couples. The two parts are calculated separately and can be received at the same time.
What counts as adjusted taxable income (ATI)?
Adjusted taxable income (ATI) is broader than your salary or wages. It can include your taxable income, reportable fringe benefits (amounts shown on your payment summary as fringe benefits), reportable employer super contributions (extra super your employer pays above the compulsory rate that you agreed to as a salary sacrifice), total net investment losses, and certain foreign income. If you are unsure, your gross income from your most recent tax return is a reasonable starting point, but your ATI may be higher if you have any of these additional items. Services Australia uses your actual ATI for the final payment calculation.
Why might my actual payment be different from this estimate?
This tool provides a scenario-based estimate based on the income figures and ages you enter. Your actual Family Tax Benefit from Services Australia will reflect your verified annual income confirmed through your tax return, not the income you entered. Other factors this tool does not include are Rent Assistance, the child-support and maintenance income test, any shared-care arrangements, immunisation and other activity requirements, and the energy supplement. Services Australia determines your entitlement after the financial year ends and reconciles payments at that point.
What is the year-end reconciliation and how could I end up with a debt?
Family Tax Benefit is paid based on an estimate of your income during the year. After the financial year ends and you lodge your tax return, Services Australia compares the estimated income used to calculate your payments with your actual income. If your actual income was higher than estimated, your payments may have been too high, and you may be required to repay the difference. This is called a reconciliation debt. To reduce this risk, you can ask Services Australia to withhold a portion of your fortnightly payments, or you can update your estimated income during the year if your situation changes.
Do I need to notify Services Australia when my income changes?
Yes. If your income or family circumstances change significantly during the year, you should notify Services Australia as soon as possible. Changes that can affect your payment include a change in employment, a significant increase or decrease in income, a new child, a change in relationship status, or a child leaving full-time secondary study. Updating your estimated income during the year helps avoid a large debt at reconciliation time. You can update your details through your myGov account linked to Centrelink.
What does this calculator not include?
This calculator estimates the core fortnightly Family Tax Benefit Part A and Part B amounts only. It does not include Rent Assistance (which can be added to Part A for families who rent), the child-support and maintenance income test (which reduces Part A for some families), the energy supplement, Newborn Supplement, Multiple Birth Allowance, or payments for children in shared-care arrangements. Year-end supplements are shown separately as an indication only - they are reconciliation amounts paid after your tax return is lodged and are subject to the income limit and lodgement conditions. For a full picture of your entitlements, use the Services Australia website or contact Centrelink.
