Our commitment

Unpack Property is committed to making our free calculators and guides usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA, the reference standard under the Australian Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Australian Human Rights Commission's Web Access Advisory Notes.

Current conformance status

Partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

Our latest automated check found no failures, but automated tools cannot test everything and we have not yet tested the site with screen readers. Some items listed under "Known limitations" below are still being remediated.

What we have done

In April 2026 we reviewed the code against every WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criterion, and we have checked the site again with automated tools since its redesign (see "Assessment approach" below). The following measures are in place across every page:

  • A "Skip to main content" link for keyboard users.
  • Semantic landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and descriptive page titles announced on every route change for screen readers.
  • A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, tuned for both light and dark themes.
  • Colour contrast tuned to meet the 4.5:1 body-text ratio and the 3:1 non-text ratio in both light and dark themes.
  • Form inputs with programmatic labels; error messages with text explanations and live-region announcements.
  • Range sliders reachable by keyboard with readable value announcements.
  • Navigation menus that open and close with the keyboard, return focus to their trigger when closed, and expose open/closed state to assistive technology.
  • The page language declared as Australian English (lang="en-AU").
  • Honour of the "prefers-reduced-motion" system setting.
  • A cookie banner and a "Cookie preferences" button in the footer that are ordinary buttons, reachable and usable with the keyboard on every page.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following gaps and are working to remediate them:

  • Chart accessibility: our charts have a short text description and text labels, but most do not yet offer the full chart data as a table for screen readers.
  • Typography scaling: some text sizes are still set in pixels. Content resizes with browser zoom and text-spacing overrides, but we are moving to relative units for better control.
  • Screen reader testing: we have not yet tested the site end to end with NVDA, VoiceOver, or TalkBack.
  • Narrow screens: our automated accessibility check ran at desktop width. Phone widths are checked for layout and horizontal scrolling, but not yet with the same accessibility tools.

Technical specifications

Unpack Property relies on the following technologies to work with modern browsers and assistive technology:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript (React single-page application)
  • ARIA (WAI-ARIA 1.2 landmarks, roles, and states)
  • SVG for icons and charts

We design for the latest two stable versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Our automated checks run in Chromium. We aim to support screen-reader use on NVDA with Firefox or Chrome (Windows), VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS), and TalkBack (Android).

Report an accessibility issue

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site, we want to hear about it. Please email hello@unpackproperty.com.au with the page URL, a short description of the barrier, and the browser and assistive technology you were using.

We aim to respond within five business days and to publish a fix or a written workaround as soon as practicable.

Formal complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Details and online forms are available at humanrights.gov.au/complaints/make-complaint.

Assessment approach

This statement reflects a self-assessment by the Unpack Property development team. No outside auditor has reviewed the site.

  • April 2026: code review against every WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criterion, with fixes across the shared page layout, components, and colours.
  • 1 October 2026: an automated axe check (WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 A and AA rules, which include colour contrast and target size) of every page plus a blog article, in light and dark themes at desktop width, found no failures. Lighthouse accessibility scored 100 on the pages it was run on.
  • 1 October 2026: keyboard checks of key interactions, such as the search boxes and the contact and partner forms (focus moves to the first field with an error).

We plan to add screen-reader testing and phone-width accessibility checks before making a full conformance claim.

This statement was last reviewed in October 2026 in line with the structure recommended by the WAI Accessibility Statement Generator and the Australian Government Style Manual for accessibility statements.
